This case is a criminal case between NCsoft and former employees of NCsoft. This is not the civil case of NCsoft vs. BHS. The NCsoft vs. BHS case is still pending an appeal.

The way I read these statements is that NCsoft won the first Civil case and BHS appealed that decision. BHS then won the second civil case (the one in 2011), and NCsoft appealed that decision. Now it comes down to South Korea’s Supreme Court to finally settle the matter.

Civil cases are way too confusing.
Ah well. Either way, it's unlikely they'll stop TERA at this point. If anything, there will likely be some form of agreement for profit split.

Despite the wrongdoings by those few ex-staff members, this whole mess has only made me more angry towards NCSOFT.
These are some really lame court troll tactics they're employing here. But I suppose this is to be expected of NCSOFT.

Pretty much every major NA player in the MMO scene has had to settle with this "Paltalk Holdings Inc," Just so they can do business. The article is a little old, but I’m sure they are still around.

I do agree with you Tash, I expect some sort of settlement/profit sharing to result of this case.

I don’t want to come down as too much of a hard-ass, but I got to side with NCsoft. Don’t get me wrong, I love TERA. I think it’s a great game. I have two accounts ready and waiting for the game. But that does not change the fact NCsoft was stolen from. As someone who has been waiting for the true successor to L2 for a long time, I can only wonder what would have been.

Oddly enough I hope that both BHS and Ncsoft will be able to grow as game developers after this. NCsoft has been the top dog in Korea for a very long time. Some real competition between the two should hopefully lead to better games in the future.

I don't know with this rocky start even without the whole court issue, they didn't seem to hit the right note with Korea, but hey you could always move to the west... oh no wait all the anime style hate.

We have tons and tons of patent trolls in NA. It's ridiculous how they push the system around in circles. There is few judges that actually catch them and corner them but then they can't do much if anything to them.

The Tim Landell case was the prime example of patent trolling in the gaming industry.
If you research the guy for just 5 minutes, I guarantee you'll want to throw up. It's disgusting.

to me it looks like all they added to the combat system is a crosshair and a dodge skill but people on the internet are acting like its the 7th heaven.

i know the graphics and environment look great, no doubt, but the style of the gameplay looks kind of generic to me.

Their point was mostly this: BHS did not use the stolen assets to create TERA as the courts have found BHS not guilty of doing so.
Of course, the whole thing is going to create more drama rather than the opposite.
