They wanted to leave behind the "This is a PvP game" in Guild Wars 1 and become a fully rounded game.
Can't say why you don't like WvW, actually it might be because everyone runs in groups there and that's not your thing. Least on the top end servers people run in groups always. You usually only pick up solo people if they are headed to a group or rejoining a group, so people have tried baiting me into an ambush pretty often when I take out solo players.
Not big on dungeons myself but I want to experience them all and right now I want the runes from CM and CoF.
But I did enjoy Fractals.

Lucky for you Sera is like a Pro ele, think she might be good at every class actually. Maybe she has tips. :P
Man I found a good way to make some cash selling matts, then I realized all the matts I was selling I need for my legendary.
Also ecto price shot up to 30s when I was on yesterday.... is it still 30s? Because it used to be like 24 and I want it back down to 24 because I was considering buying some. :(
I hope whatever they do in the coming updates brings a way to earn some more gold in the open world.
One of my friends started playing again, trust is he likes the game he only stopped because of the lack of WvW people. I need some WvW buddies. For both him and me.

Tricky to figure out, though and sometimes gimmicky but I like them a lot.
Katzbalger, Option, Miku, Nuh, Mai, Carue, Style, Enel, Hsien Ko, etc.

Plus Elementalist is one of the strongest Bunkers.

Both feel extremely weak early on. It isn't until later levels that you get to do fun things with traits and survive longer.
For Elementalist, learn self combos. S/D has a lot of them. Learn all of your skills so you know what to do in different encounters. I'd recommend S/D (Scepter/Dagger) for early on and middle levels. Dagger/Dagger at higher if you're comfortable with them. As for Mesmer, level with a friend, it can get really boring until you get more traits.
I have to say that after getting them to high levels, I find Elementalist and Mesmer the most fun to play.
