Here I am again asking about tech stuff~

I'm putting together a second PC with old parts, and I have 2 options for the processor:

-Intel Core 2 Duo @ 1,87 Ghz
-Intel Pentium G630 (Dual Core) @2,7 Ghz

Theoretically, a Core 2 Duo is better than a Dual Core, but the G630 works at higher Ghz.

I checked this chart comparing performance: ( http://www.cpubenchm...range_cpus.html ) but I'm not sure I can trust this as I see a $88 processor on top of the list and some others that cost more then $400 blelow...

That chart says the G630 is much better than the Core 2 Duo... but it also says that some i3 are better than i7 at very similar clock speeds...

Core 2 duo is a brand name from intel, and dual core is the generic description of 2 core CPU.
If you're going to use either of these 2 to play BnS, I don't really recommend it :/
If you have to pick out of the two, I'd go for G630 :]

Ok, I'll install the g630 then~ but Core2Duo is not just a brand of intel, it's also a higher performance processor compared to a regular Dual Core, even an Intel Dual Core... that's why I'm asking.

And don't worry, this is not for playing BnS xDD I'm not that crazy :D
My main PC has an intel i7@3,4 Ghz =)

WTH why do you go with such old processors,
Buy one of the new i-series (i3-i5-i7)
Especially the last ones, the Ivy bridge series (3000 series) Are really good

They have high Clock speed, and they enable overclocking when needed and you achieve really high clock speeds.
Like I said Those processors are old, like 7 years at least. Why choose for old tech?

From the way you asked your question, I presume you already own both processors and you know what you do. I mean I guess you know if they have the correct sockets.

In that case I would sell those 2 and buy a new one

I7 is a good investment,would rather spend 3k and it could last up to 5-6 years

Try play UT3 with max setting with few bot players see how was it

Guys I said my main PC has an intel i7@3,4 Ghz and I'm building a second PC for simpler tasks than gaming ;)

As a guy previously stated, if you do not already own those old processors do not buy either one of them.
You'll regret it if you do.

Buy an I3 or an I5, you can get even a super crappy cheap one that will outperform either one of those on anything. (there are pleanty of cheap i3s and i5s)

I re-read your post.

you have a G630 it's a sandybridge. (not an old processor)
Use that, I highly doubt it will have any overclocking abilities but at 2,7ghz it should be alright for just about everything if its just a media PC.
If it does have overclocking capabilites of any sort, push it up past 3,0ghz and you should be good to go!
(you can get that sort of speed even with the stock cooler if you dont have an extra aftermarket. I'd bet around 3,2-3,3ghz is your temp limit on a stock cooler.)

But in the end i would still reccomend selling both and buying an overclockable cheap i3 or i5.

I see, that was a good answer, it took a while maybe because I didn't explain the problem properly, I did say that I own both processors, but seems like I wasn't very good at explaining it.

So I'll go with the G630. Thank you guys, and the PC I'm building in fact is not for me, it's for a friend that has no money and can't even play tetris without lag in his current PC xD
