Concept Art
We've got precisely 43 scenic pieces and 23 character pieces. Some are new while others you may have seen already. These were pulled from the newly released official Blade & Soul fansite kit mentioned above as well. I'm sure I speak for everyone here when I say I can't wait to see these locations come to life in-game.

Today we're going to be discussing the various travel methods used in Blade & Soul. This includes your characters basic movement, Qing Gong, Teleportation Scrolls and Dragon Streams.

Let's start things off with your characters basic movement. Like most MMORPGs Blade & Soul uses the W, A, S and D keys to control your character. The W and S keys send your character running forward or backwards while the A and D keys turn your character left or right. It's that simple.

Now, for you advanced players looking to get the most out of the game and the best results, you can hold down both the left and right mouse buttons at the same time and this will cause your character to run forward. You can then slide the mouse left or right while doing so and this will turn the camera and your character similar to that of the A and S keys. Holding down the right mouse button alone while holding down W has the same effect. Blade & Soul also has strafing, or side stepping. This technique will allow you to move your character to the sides without loosing sight of your target. Simply hold down the right mouse button and either A or D to execute the strafe mechanic, this will allow you to strafe in the specified direction while moving your camera and character at the same time.

Want to be good at Blade & Soul? Make good friends with that right mouse button for both control and visual awareness. "Keyboard turning" is definitely not the way to go in this game. Doable? Yes. Effective? No way!

Qing Gong
Qing Gong is Blade & Soul's most basic form of transportation. By double tapping your W key, you immediately transition into the Qing Gong state, granting you an incredible boost in both speed and agility. While in this state you run at very high speeds, jump incredibly high, and preform some visually impressive acrobatics while doing so.

There is a limitation to this ability however. Aside from only being able to use Qing Gong out of combat, this mechanic requires a resource in order to be used, a meter located directly under your characters health and ability meters. This resource meter will continuously drain at a constant rate while you are preforming Qing Gong. Once this meter is depleted, you will be forced out of Qing Gong and will not be able to re-enter the Qing Gong state until you have recovered a portion of the resource meter.

You will obtain the ability to enter the Qing Gong state while going through the tutorial zone at the start of the game, which is completed by level four. Qing Gong is quite efficient short distance travel, impressive to look at, and most importantly fun to use!

Teleportation Scrolls
Teleportation scrolls are the next step in travel within Blade & Soul. These scrolls come at a moderate price, at least for new players, and allow you to instantly travel to a major city or quest hub of your choice. To use a teleportation scroll simply click the button on your minimap and choose your destination. After a short animation you will find yourself at your desired destination. Each use consumes one scroll.

These scrolls are obtained through the occasional quest at lower levels and can also be purchased off vendors. These scrolls are somewhat scarce and expensive, so use them wisely. And for the love of all that is holy don't accidentally vendor them! Nayami definitely didn't do that. Nope, he sure didn't! Not him! :whistling:

Dragon Streams
Dragon streams are a method of travel used to get to difficult to reach destinations in Blade & Soul at very high speeds. If you thought Qing Gong was impressive you haven't seen anything yet!

To use a dragon stream simply walk over a dragon stream location. These location appear as yellow streams of light coming out of the ground. Once you enter a dragon stream a short uncontrollable cinematic will begin. Your character will preform an impressive amount of acrobatics during this cinematic, hoping, dashing, and flipping their way to the given destination at incredible speeds.

You will gain access to dragon streams in Blade & Soul once you reach level 15 and complete the "Faith" storyline quests. Once this quest line is complete you will be able to enter any dragon streams you come across. These are generally strategically placed to grant you access to areas you couldn't otherwise reach, as opposed to just being another method of quick travel.

This sure beats the average "flight path" mechanics found in other MMORPGs.

Last week we took a look at Blade & Soul's Training System which offers a massive amount of ability customization. Today we're going to look at how we can customize our characters stats through the use of equipment and the Bo-Pae system.

Stat customization has been a major element in RPG's for quite sometime now. It allows the players to individualize their characters, increasing their power and making them stand out from the crowd. Maybe you want to sacrifice your mages damage to make him more durable, or your warriors defense for more damage. Maybe you want your archer class to have more melee capabilities, or perhaps you just want to strengthen your core abilities. Well, this is what stat customization is all about! Blade & Soul will have plenty of methods and opportunities to allow its players to customize to their hearts content.

Posted Image
Equipment & Stats
Unlike many other MMORPG's, you'll never have to worry about your characters gear looking terrible in Blade & Soul! You'll actually be able to customize the look of your character as you are not burdened by the necessity of having to wear a specific suit of armor just because it yields the best stats. In fact, your characters entire visual appearance, minus your weapon, has no stat enhancing features what so ever!

No stats on your body armor? You're probably thinking that would leave us with less equipment options and less ways to customize our characters. Fear not! Team Bloodlust left plenty of unique ways to compensate. You can obtain stats from accessories, that being two rings, two earrings and a necklace. You can also acquire stats from their unique Bo-Pae system which provides your character with eight stat slots. That's right, eight whole slots from the Bo-Pae system alone. That totals in at thirteen slots for your characters to obtain stats. These pieces can be acquired through killing enemies and completing quests.

Not having stats on your body armor doesn't mean you can run around naked and still be powerful. You are required to have something equipped in your body slot in order to gain stats from your Bo-Pae pieces, which makes up a significant part of your total stat enhancements. This system of visual customization holds true to martial arts lore; never underestimate your opponent and choose your battles wisely. Just because someone is wearing something you get at level ten doesn't mean that they aren't level cap and sporting top end Bo-Pae pieces and accessories. Always have your guard up and treat every battle like it's a fight for life and death, because it very well could be!

Posted Image
Bo-Pae
The Bo-Pae system consists of eight interchangeable stat item slots. The slots can be found in a pie like structure located in the center of your characters profile tab. Each of the eight pieces contain basic stats for your characters; health, attack power, defense and the like.

Each Bo-Pae piece belongs in a set. Collecting and equipping every piece in a set will unlock further stats and even cause a physical appearance change on your character, making him or her glow. Glowing effects vary depending on the rarity of the Bo-Pae set. Here's an example on how the set bonuses work; each set contains roughly three stat bonuses, collect and equip three pieces in a set to unlock the first, collect five to unlock the second and collect all eight to unlock the final bonus. This leaves room to mismatch sets if you feel the eight piece bonus isn't worth it. For instance, you can collect five pieces of one set and three of another.

Item Breakdown & Bo-Pae Modification
The item breakdown feature in Blade & Soul is used in combination with the Bo-Pae system to obtain further benefits. Throughout the game you'll find yourself collecting many Bo-Pae and weapon pieces that you might not necessarily want to use, either because they are lower level or not the stats you are looking for. Instead of just throwing them away or selling them for chump change, you can break down these not so useful pieces. By breaking them down you turn them into dust. You then use this dust in conjunction with more useful Bo-Pae pieces to further enhance the stats of your current Bo-Pae piece. Through this method of enchantment you can take full potential of the Bo-Pae system to customize your character in any direction you choose.

Weapon Gem Slotting
Gemming in Blade & Soul in fairly simplistic. Currently, only your weapons can be gemmed as they are the only items that have sockets. How many open sockets a weapon has varies depending on the level of the weapon. Lower level weapons generally only have one socket or none at all. Higher level weapons can have up to four sockets for your gemming pleasure. The gems that you insert into the weapons are also color coded for your convenience. Purple is critical strike, green is evasion, red is damage, and so on. How powerful these gems actually get is currently unknown. We'll just have to wait for CBT2 and see what we find!

Today we're going to take an in depth look at the training system in Blade & Soul. Many will find this system to be similar to skill trees in other well known RPG games, but with its own unique characteristics. A Skill tree is an aspect of some games that allow custom configurations of a characters abilities.

Blade & Soul provides its players with many ways to create a unique character, allowing them to customize it to fit their play style. The ‘Training’ system is one of many ways to do this. Once your character reaches level 15 the training system will unlock. Through the training system and leveling, your character will unlock hidden powers to fend off evil.

You will be given one point to spend in the tree upon reaching level 15, every level gained after that will give you an additional point. Much like other skill trees in various other games, you'll need to spend a certain amount of points within a tree to unlock more advanced skills. Your character will be able to learn entirely new abilities with this system as well as strengthening already available skills.

Posted Image
When you hear "strengthening" you would think the damage of certain moves will be increased, but in this case you can also make your counters last a bit longer, increase the duration of your stuns or even open up more combo options for certain skills, not to mention making certain skills available when you are immobilized. The training system focuses more on utility of the skills rather than power.

For example, a Kung-Fu Masters Leap Stomp has a 12 second cool down, but if you put a point in this skill it will allow the leap stomp cool down to be reset when you use the Force Punch skill. In addition, it will also allow the use of Force Punch when you are stunned.

The skills you put in this system can be reset at any given moment. However, the cost of the reset will vary on how many points you spent in the given tab. For example with 4 points in the training system you would need 76 Silver, whereas with 5 points it will cost 95 silver.

Posted Image
Cost of reset varies depending on how many points you spent in the Training tab.

The points you can gain are limited but there are so many specialization skills you can learn, which makes room for customization and variety to set yourself apart from other players.

How the System is Organized
The training tab is organized with two categories; the singular column on the left are your active skills, and the two larger columns on the right side are the utility aspects of the related skill on the left column. In order to put points in to the right side columns you need to first take the active skill on the left side of the same line.

The Kung-Fu Masters Aerial Escape requires level 45 and 30 points in training tab to learn.

Class Training Lists
Below is a list of all the four classes abilities, ability modifiers and their descriptions found in each of their training system tabs. Keep in mind that the Destroyer's training tab was incomplete on Blade & Soul's first CBT, so information is limited.

Use the links below to jump to a class and avoid the wall of text!
