NCsoft West Addresses Censorship Concerns
NCsoft is putting to rest rumors that Blade & Soul is going to be censored in the west. NCsoft is required to abide by certain ESRB rules and guidelines in regards to its marketing. However, there are no plans to censor or change the in game content for its western users. We will all be able to enjoy the gorgeous art style of Hyung-Tae Kim in Blade & Soul.

Check out the official statement below.

Respecting the Vision
This is an exciting time for us as we can now use our official website, Twitter feed, and Facebook page to share information and provide status updates on the development of Blade & Soul® for Western audiences. We will use these platforms as a way to not only distribute official assets and information, but to directly address community concerns. With that in mind, we wanted to take a moment to shed some light on rumors that NCsoft West is censoring the content of Blade & Soul.

As you know, Blade & Soul features a rich, beautiful world inspired by the artistic style of Hyung-Tae Kim, an internationally renowned artist we consider ourselves fortunate to be working with. Hyung-Tae Kim brings with him a very recognizable and risqué anime style that, combined with the game's deep storyline and modern martial arts style combat, delivers a game experience like no other.

Due to ESRB guidelines, however, our marketing material must abide by a different set of considerations than the final product. This is why Blade & Soul's rating is listed as "pending." It is NCsoft West's intention to accurately depict the game in its original, unaltered form, with only minor adjustments for gameplay considerations.

In short: We are not planning to censor or alter the actual in-game content you have come to expect from an artist such as Hyung-Tae Kim and a studio such as Team Bloodlust. Rest assured that we love Blade & Soul as much as you do, and any modifications to the marketing material are not indicative of our plans for the final content.

We appreciate your concern, and we hope that we've helped set your minds at ease. We're very excited about bringing Blade & Soul to Western audiences, and we intend to do our best to deliver the game you want to play.

Very glad to see this. It seems as though they're at least in touch with the murmuring among the community enough that they can address the major concerns in updates like this. Now all the censorship threads/debates can be squashed and people can get back to impatiently waiting for the release.

Seems logical, and hopefully this isn't a bunch of corporate double-talk they're spewing and they end up going back on their word, but for now I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt.

This is extremely important news. A game like this one can't start out with bad press. It's a domino effect, get your hardcore fanbase angry and watch it all go sour

Preserving the art, what draws us to B&S in the first place, is so very much important to us. Thank you NCSoft for staying true to the art.

This is one of those rare cases where I 100% agree with Ghastly.
This is extremely important news and not only a huge relief as a fan, but more so from a concerned consumer. Little mistakes, on or before an MMOG launch can cause a huge amount of problems that stay long-term.

Hopefully they continue on the right path.

Really glad to hear that they won't censor the game in the west. But Frogster said the same with Tera and in the End they even censored blood. Let's hope they are not trying to lie to us :P

I am so happy about this.

This is actually great of NCSoft concerning about fan based requests even though the game development has barely started.
Thx again. Still can't wait for the game to release.

Still waiting...

Holy cow, is really NCSoft worried about their customers opinion?? Is this the end of the world?
But if they're gonna do just some minor modification, why should the age limit of the game be still "pending"? Just asking, i really don't get that "modifications to the marketing material" thing....what kind of adjustments could they make, without altering the original artistic style?

I also didn't get it.

I hope they don't gonna spend a whole year to translate the game (Like Tera did), so we should at least force them to announce the ETA.

I hope they keep the original voice acting, and then just add subtitles :)
or have it as an option in the game or something.

NCSoft just sold a collector's edition(or deluxe whatever it's called) o/

Way to go!

The reason they can't show "adult" rated trailers is because it would limit the forums where these trailers could be shown on.

You don't see porn on gaming sites either, right? :j
