You probably stumbled upon Elimer's post about this recently, here. We just thought we'd dig into this further and clear this up a bit for you all with a translation from ThisisGame.com. This article was translated by Yuan.

iOS Blade & Soul Comes True
NCsoft develops Blade & Soul Spin Off for the iPhone and iPad!

Remember NCsoft's little April Fools' joke last year? The one where they stated that Blade & Soul will be developed for the iPhone? It seemed like an obvious joke at the time but apparently NCsoft has turned it around and is actually looking to make a Blade & Soul spin off (side story) game for the iPhone and iPad!

NCsoft has already started developing the spin off title and has recently started seeking experienced individuals for the games development team. NCsoft is currently hiring an Art Manager, a Client Programmer and a Server Programmer for this new project. Hiring a Server Programmer gives us reason to believe that this game will contain multiplayer aspects!

Edit: We would like to point out that Blade & Soul's iOS version will not be developed by the same team creating the PC/Console version. This spin off game should have little to no effect on the original games development speed.

Some of you might be familiar with Epic Games recently released Unreal 3 Engine game for the iOS titled "Infinity Blade". NCsoft prefers that the Art Manager they are looking to hire has experience working with the Unreal 3 Engine, which means we could expect Blade & Soul's iOS versions graphics to be on par with its PC counterpart.

According to ThisisGame.com, one of Epic Games staff members had this to say at E3 2010; "With this new iOS, Unreal Engine games like NCsoft’s upcoming Blade & Soul game can potentially be made on the iOS."

Here's what NCsoft had to say about all of this; "Currently this recruitment is just a test, we will be doing many experiments and we are not 100% certain that the game will be coming out on the iOS."

Is that supposed to say "Unreal Engine" as opposed to "Enreal ..."

So what do I think? I think they should finish the REAL game and get it released in Korea and NA/EU before they branch off onto other systems. That's what I think.

Do you think that you would be able to transfer bonus items from the iPhone/iPod Touch to your regular account? Or maybe you just log in with your regular account?

It looks too confusing with so little information available.

It appears to be a spin off game, meaning it will take place in the same universe but will more than likely contain a completely different storyline and content, so logging into the iOS version with your PC/Console account to play will probably be out of the question.

I don't think NCsoft would add beneficial items to the PC version for having bought or downloaded the iPhone version, let's hope not! If they were to add anything I hope they'd just add unimportant vanity/cosmetic items in, items that don't really effect your characters gameplay. Not everyone has access to an iPhone, iPod or iPad.

Hopefully it doesn't affect the real game (overpowered weapons/rare items, etc.)
Hopefully it's just some side story stuff. I hate apple products and I'd hate to buy that stupid iphone/pad

i shouldnt, imo mmos will always be tied to PC and not so much with consoles, especially with razer's switchblade. PC gaming is a gen ahead than consoles, but in the end, both will be very similar.

This could be....interesting I do plan on picking up an iphone eventually and this may help sway me over, nothing has really made me feel it is a necessary purchase when my current phone still works fine.

Well considering they are hiring a different team to work on the console version I'm pretty sure it's not hindering the original game.
This is excellent. If they release a single player game on iPhone/Xbox people who play it and like it may considering playing the MMO version.

I think its cool and all, but they should finish this project and then make with it all what they want!
All the world is waiting for PC version, not for all-devices-compatible game :sweats:

Glad we agree on that.

I certainly think that for a lot of people some sort of B&S application would work for the smartphones,
it's just that
1) I won't game on such a small screen
2) I won't really have the time to play on there anyways (or I can just play on my PC)

I'd rather see some sort of character-managing app. that I could quickly tune in and out of
to get the best out of my char when I get home.

This will, at that, proly leave more time for the dev. team to finish the main game properly first.
Cause I'm kinda wanting the game to slowly, but surely, make it's way overseas now :x

I think ya'll are just bitter from the lack of news!
This is a seperate team, not Bloodlust so I think it won't slow down the PC version at all.

Then why didn't you say from in the first place? V___V
If it's a separate team then there's little objection,
aside from my point that I still don't like mobile gaming.

And indeed: I'm bitter from the lack of info, sue me V___V

We kinda did! We felt the following paragraph in the article explained that pretty well!

Sure, we could have been a bit more clear there, but that should say it all! They're hiring new folks for this project!

Gotta love those responses XD
Just messin with ya boss, don't get your knickers in a twist (or ban me :x )

But There's little to nag about then, if it's a separate team (and not just one person that gets added to the fray. cause that would be
like carrying water to the ocean =___=; )

SO yeah, wait and see :]

Oh no! Don't read my response wrong, I meant absolutely no harm in that post! I guess I came off a little wrong/harsh there, just tried to point it out. I apologize.

:joss_stick:

But yeah, Blade & Soul can only benefit from this. As Shinaji mentioned, It will get the game out there further, drawing in more players to the actual MMO!
