Lyn Discussion: Player Housing

Hey everyone! It's time for a new Lyn Discussion, let us discuss player housing this time around. This article was brought to you by Shinski, please give him/her a hand!

Whether it's eating, sleeping or just hanging out and resting, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? Your home, right? After you've come back from a long day or trip usually the first thing that comes to your mind is "There's no place like home". There are even old sayings like "Once you leave your home, there is nothing but hardships". Just the thought of having a home or a place to call your own puts your mind at ease.

With all that said, what would you like to see in a player housing system?

[ncquote=Lyn]Putting rare items you found on display, raising crops in your yard, inviting friends over to hang out and eat, etc. If we provide player housing I believe that there will be many different things a player can achieve.
[/ncquote]
So, what do you as a player think about this? Remember, Team Bloodlust is reading everyone's responses and is taking them all into consideration. With the help of Shinski this time around, they'll be reading what we have to say as well, so be sure to leave your thoughts here! This topic will be up until the 26th of this month, Team Bloodlust will not be taking any more comments after then.

I'll leave you with a note from Shinski on his/her original post:
Well there you have it. I am guessing player housing is official now? If you guys leave comments below I will sign on the Korean forums and translate what you guys put down into their comment section.

I will be posting a comment every 2-3 days, it will include any new comments posted here between the days. I will be starting the comment with "The fans of B&S in NA want these ideas implemented". Since my post will be representing the Dojo users, I probably won't include any comments that others have disagreed with. If I was just representing one person then it would be possible, but since I'll be speaking for the community as a whole I will only post ideas that the majority of us agree with. Also, I will post my comment here before posting on the Korean forums so that everyone can get an idea of how our post will look to the developers.

Maybe with enough comments Team Bloodlust will send over an English speaking developer to our Dojo! *crosses fingers* Anyways, lets show them what we are made of!

@ Revast: ...Closing the topic on me like that ;_____;

Repost:

"Our~ house, is a very, very, very fine house~ "
..-Alright, alright :x (<-- this joke seems a lot less funny now .___. )

- It's pretty cool to get player housing, a place to call home.
But a house will probably be instanced, Or there would have to be a HUGE area with JUST houses....g'luck finding your crib then.
So putting items on display may not reach the effect one would hope. I do like the idea of putting rare items (non-combat items)
on display just to give "home" just that little bit of extra feeling of "this is my home".

- A home is where I stash stuff, normally. So instead of the traditional 'warehouse', why not make your house the warehouse?
The auctionhouse will remain of course, but a place to dump your unused/higher-level stuff, sure.

- Player variety is a big part nowadays.
Maybe to option to buy character decoration (hair-styles, colors, tattoo's) will be present.
Instead of spending money every time you want to change your look,
why not have everything you bought at a store be available at your house, so you can pick the outfit/look that suits your mood at that time.

Note: Do not mistake this with the inventory or gear-wardrobe. I want to be able to access my inv. at all times, as well as switch gear when I want to,
not just at home.

- House-quests: From time to time you might receive a letter with a special quest with which you will be able to obtain <an item>
This will make players frequent their house, and not just have a house for the sake of having it.

- COFFEE!!

- I saw a poll on the frontpage, which asked something about pets.
I HATE pets (with a passion) but some tend to be useful. The reason I don't like them is because they stick to your ass like honey.
IF they should be implemented in the game, it'd be nice to leave the pet at home and take it with you as you see fit.
This way I can make use of the critter, without having it following me to the end of the world , beyond and back.

- Houses have TV's. It'd be cool to be able to watch all cutscenes you've seen to the point of your progress.
(I don't know how may are in the game, but I've seen quite some cool stuff)

...just some quick ideas that came to mind when I read this.
Agree or disagree as you see fit.

@Revast Thanks! Wow you did that really fast. A lot more oraganized then how I did it haha! +1 for you~

@Lithia
I agree with your points. Player housing has to be instanced. Imagine walking into a town in a server hosting thousands of people. It will just be plain annoying trying to find your house between THOUSANDS of other homes.

To me I think they should take out player housing and implement guild housing and call it a dojo =]. Also, make a "limit" on how many dojos can be available in cities. Like 25 dojo max in large cities and like 5 dojos in small towns. Put a monthly in-game currency "rent" fee to own a dojo. Inside the dojo they could implement rooms for players in the same guild. So your guild members can visit other member's rooms. In the rooms you can decorate it and make it look how you want it to look. They can put in "pet" systems that let you raise a pet inside your room, grow your own crops, etc.

I also like the feature coming in cataclysm where guilds (dojos) can "level" up to provide buffs and items for players specifically in that dojo. By providing these dojo-like housing, not only does it help guild members feel "closer" to one another, but it also gives them a sense of "pride" like "Yes I am a member of the DRAGON CLAN DOJO. And we are the best!". Dojos are a big part of martial art movies so it will also give the game a sense of role-playing.

At first i was all for the guild housing idea, but now that i think about it that was just because I thought they would never implement a housing system. Now that they have I think the instanced single player housing would be amazing. I think having an amazing amount of customization for the house would be nice. Things such as color, style of house and other things. There was a clip in the trailer where a girl is walking toward a house with tons of beautiful flowers and trees and things this is somewhat what I imagine when I see housing. having your own house makes the game more personal I like the idea of guild houses but if we can't have both I choose single player housing.

+1 for guild dojo's
I like the idea of having a 'dojo' instead of a 'guild'. It fits the setting much more.
You can "pimp" the dojo as you see fit, but at least you get the eastern air to it.

All the members of the Dojo will have their name displayed on wooden placks which will hang on some wall.
This would mean a limit must be put on Dojo-sizes.
Maybe follow the Warhammer: Age of Reckoning (I believe it was) idea
Lv.1 Dojo <X amount of players>
Lv.2 Dojo <XX amount of players>
Lv.3 Dojo <Max amount of players>

Doing it this way, only guildies will be able to see the "prizes" in your room/section but that's fine, cause mostly you'll be talking/hangin out with guildmembers.
You won't invite random player 'xXNaruSasu69Xx' to come look at your "trophies"...You don't give a damn about him and he doesn't give a damn about you or your trophies, because he doesn't know you. The best you'll get out of him is jealousy.

Also the dojo-only Items would be nice to get :]
buffs I can do without, but I wouldn't say no to it either.

Ah yes~ the ball starts rolling ^___^

- Lith. ...On to something.

I have some ideas, complementing yours.
The Dojo idea is awesome and I would love to see it more than individual house system. But what if they could complement each other.
Imagine a Dojo, with several rooms, each for each member, completely customizable, meaning, your room could have a different color from your fellow Dojie next door. And the Dojo Master (just figured it would be better than Guild Leader XD) would decide the colors of the Dojo itself, outside and inside, not the room, except for his own. There like many said, instead of using the room for selling stuff I would prefer it for showing off trophies, heads of bosses, present of girlfriend (in case there are a marriage system) and other stuff Team Bloodlust could imagine, and to complement, a full size picture of your character, so everyone that entered your room would know how you look like. There, each room would have 3 options of sharing, closed, no one could enter, open to Dojo members, open to all. Complementing this, the Dojo itself could also have these options.
About the single houses, there could be apartments, much like those in the Naruto world (sorry, was the only example that occurred to me XD) and each character would have a home there that, if they eventually got a guild, would move to the Dojo itself.
These apartments would work like Dojos but the color of the place itself would be predetermined and there would be unknown characters in the whole place.

There is only one problem, no idea for now where this Dojos and apartments would be able to be placed, but maybe the rest of you can figure that out! XD
Well, I think that's all I can think for now about the housing system! :P

I'm sorry I don't like the idea that i would HAVE to be in a guild to see the benefits of the "dojo." Not to mention that most decisions would be made by guild leader i've been in guild where the leader is never on, forgets to promote you and, and creates favorites based on actually knowing people. But yeah the apartments would be nice i've always liked those on naruto just dont want to have to be in a guild if i dont want to

Shinski you're awesome and we love you.

Pardon me while I Merge Runes of Magic, Ragnarok Online 1/2, ArcheAge and Aion Visions together for this one.

Houses don't have to be 'instanced'.
Have a house be account bound and since there are a finite amount that can be on a server we can ave it work like say ArcheAge, where there is an entire Continent dedicated to the players. They can build up their houses there or claim one. Now navigating. Simple have warp NPCs available in different "districts" so if you need to get to someone's house you warp to the district where they are probably 20-30 houses in that district. You can walk between districts if you wish.

Player Quests.
You can create a quest, most likely gathering or something of the sort and offer a reward, this can be posted on a community Notice board.

Dojo housing/Dojo Leveling
Now if it were to be guild housing I'd like there to be guild leveling like in Ragnarok online. You can tax a certain amount of your exp to the guild/dojo. This will contribute to the leveling of the guild, as the guild levels the Leader gets skill points to use on special skills and abilities for the guild. There will be something that shows how much exp you've contributed to the Dojo so this gives you a stronger feeling of contribution and bonding with the guild.

Player Stores.
Something like what is appearing in Ragnarok Online 2, but only with houses, You can hire and NPC to basically open a little stall by your house and sell what items you have given it to put up for sale. This would be a nice addition for the market feel. Of course I'm sure most people prefer a Broker or a Auction house. Still I always liked personal stores. There can be a board that pint points you to what stores are currently opened up.

Mannequin.
Small but nice, I'd like there to be Mannequins you can dress up in your gear. So you just got done in a fire dungeon and now you're moving to a wind dungeon. You run in click on the mannequin and switch clothes to the full wind resistant items and then you're off. PvP? Click, switch, gone! But this is something minor though.

I'll have more thoughts later. Edited by Shinaji

Nice. All nice suggestions. Location and how they input player housing is important.

I think the main focus on the poll is what feature you would like in your housing. Personal housing of course.

The idea of leveling up your housing with splitting up the XP gain from mobs/quests from Shinaji seems to be a great idea. For example 50/50 would provide players to level up slower, but give the benefit of leveling up their homes at the same time. While others may take a different approach like 100% of XP goes to their character and 0% goes to housing. Letting them max level their character first and grinding mobs/quests will STILL be viable because the full XP will go to leveling up homes.

It would also be cool to see your house being used for your profession. For example, lets say your profession is "blacksmithing". Your "yard" area can consist of things that help your profession out. Like adding in a "refining ore" section which lets you produce more materials then using a city's main blacksmith section. Leveling up your homes can provide a more efficient way to produce higher quality materials. I have no idea how the profession system will work in BnS so we will have to wait and see about that.

I think the main point of the developers adding a Housing system is to provide more "progession and content" for players. There are lots of times where I just run out of things to do or get tired of PvE and PvP. The housing system will provide players that run into that "burned-out" phase more of a "casual" play to rest. And homes = rest :D

I don't quite agree with this. Having in mind a house is a physical thing it makes more sense "leveling"/upgrating it with ingame currency. I like that idea, but only on Guild related aspects, like a guild level, nothing that would level the Dojo. There could, instead of that have an option of giving 10% of your money to the house funding of the Dojo, it's basically the same idea, but just money related.
Now, we would need to think what these upgrades would be for the house system. The first and the basic one would be the option to add more members to the Dojo. Maybe the rooms could get bigger also.
With these upgrades it also come the looks, maybe the base one would be a rotten Dojo, then you upgrade and you would have like 5 different types of designs to choose and then more 5 and so. Afterall, we all love customization and personalization.

I had another idea, a billboard in Dojo main hall, where you could post things like WTS or WTB guild related only or something like that. Even maybe guild-related quests, made by the Dojo Master to his members (would have to give a better though to this idea).

What I would like to see is a different look and setting to houses. Not just the same house design and same city for each person with different content and colors for each person.

For example:
- There could be houses in other places besides towns
- You could have preselected places inside of forests where you can create a home inside of a tree
- You could have preselected places on the side of mountains for people who want to live inside of a cave

City homes would be nice for people who like to socialize, but for some people who dont really socialize they could then go live inside of a tree or cave if they wanted to.
It gives people a chance to express themselves a little further.

Personally I think Dojo's should only be accessed by class. Guilds could instead have a camp site or compound.

Dojo's by class can be a place to recieve training, advice, and also meet likeminded combatants of your chosen weapon mastery. Perhaps each town can have there own dojo dedicated to a special art of fighting for your class to which you can learn ((Perhaps a way for your chosen class to be unique from the others...Example, a Blade Master student joining a Dojo dedicated to pure speed..While another Dojo focuses on the mind and perfecting the flying sword technique.))

Of course to help with lag issues, houses and dojos could and possibly be instanced...Though I wouldn't mind breaking and entering a house to gain something of value from a wealthy target.

I like where Team Bloodlust is going and dipping into many aspects of an MMO that would interest many people, they just need to be careful how they develop and distribute it to the masses. As many MMO's in the past have shown...People will find a way to exploit and harrass others trying to have fun. Edited by Manes

(This is not a salty RE to OP)

Tell the Dev team if they want to do a great job at the housing development to play animal crossing for at least one week
before they decide to include any shenenigans to housing itself.

I'll support anything else if the housing comes with these start-up features.

* Player to Player access (Visitation)
* No cramming or fixed setting for interior design
* No Linear designs
* No overlypriced item for said cause/effect.
(Seriously, People would charge millions for a item that gives +5 to capacity and people would buy the overpriced item. NO!)

* Interactive Objects inside the house instead of just wasted space for viewing.

* Division between mail and actual storage.
(Seriously, it shouldn't take much to create a REAL mailbox. Not an storage where Swords and Armor AND letters go.)

* Helpful Events for housing itself

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This would be a really nice start-up. Nonetheless, Housing should have an nice element to it so; it won't be just a tall storage. Like pay the landlord or whoever money for upgrades for more capacity and what not.

For player houses to start in video games I kinda see them as display cases you can walk into where you can display, armor, interesting weapons that you find, trophies, and other small things like that. A good way to discribe it is how you could customize the houses you purchase in the Fable series, there were plenty of house styles and the customization system was simple yet you could achieve some interesting looks.

In Game Functional Elements I would like to see -

- A Mail box to send and receive items and mail.
- A Dresser so that you can change your clothing / armor, hair styles, makeup, tattoos that you have already purchased.
- A "Weapons Locker" of sorts so you can store weapons and change your currently equipped weapon.
- Or a combination Storage system that allows you to store gear (clothing, weapons, matts, ect) and change your currently equipped gear to gear that is in storage. It would also be great if this is divided by categories like Weapons, Clothing, Armor, Materials, etc.
- A commons box so that you can store Items to pick up on other characters on your account or a mail system to be able to send gear to alternate characters on the same account.
- The ability to Teleport to your house from almost anywhere in the world and then recall back to where you teleported, the balace to this would be a long cool down like a 30 minuet cool down so you can't spam teleport back and forth. The only time you would be able to teleport would be out of combat.

Aesthetics and other Elements I would like to see for the Player House -

- The aesthetics that we would accompany with a house in a setting like B&S. A kitchen, eating area, bed room, front door, a mail box, perhaps a small front / back yard, etc. The small details like those will really immerse the player into thinking that this is "their" house and their character lives there (if the player chooses to have a house for their character).
- Depending on the way Blood Lust chooses to do the house system, wither it be per a player or as a Guild hall setting for a guild. Please for the sake of game play make the player house / guild hall a One Time Purchase that comes with a couple of defaults like personal storage (like 100 slots), mail box. That means No rent of any kind, but have upgrades for the house for the storage capacity, size of the house (1 floor, 2 floors, a larger 1 floor, a larger 2 floor, etc), changing the color and style of the house.
- Player House Locations and settings. Allow the player to chose the initial location of where they want their house like if they want to live in the city, a small mountain / forest town, a sea side town, ect. Or have a default location for the house and allow the player to move their house for a small fee to a location of their choice.
- House color and styles. If the player wants their house to be red and not blue, or want roof style B instead of A they should be able to chose so.
- Plenty of space or spaces to add furniture, trophies, or display weapons.
- Some exterior decorations like gardens, ponds, fences, etc.

Costs for the player house -

- Reasonable pricing. The initial cost of the player house should be fairly low as it will have the bare bones basics. Simple upgrades like increased storage capacity for you house should be fairly inexpensive because it is simply purchasing another or larger storage box.
-House styles shouldn't be much more than the initial house purchase although the fancier the style the more expensive it will be. -The most expensive parts of the player house I would imagine being the house size upgrades like going from a 1 floor house to a 2 floor house these upgrades would be purely looks and not necessarily add any additional functions to the player house, but it may rearrange the functions of the house like moving the dresser from the first floor to the second floor bed room upon upgrading from a 1 floor house to a 2 floor house. These upgrades should cost a chunk of money but not the cost of your entire life savings. Edited by foxlight713

Thank you Shinski! Thank you Elimer for always trying your best, it's very much appreciated!

I just want to place my house wherever I wanna place it. In fact I'd probably place in the fields somewhere, probably on the outskirts of a dari/eerie environment.

When it comes to dojos, I just want everyone to be able to go there and feel like the all belong there. A place to socialize, strategize, decorate the place, etc.

Something like Animal Crossing wouldn't hurt, though I'd rather them not waste too much time on something like this.

Well, the only housing system that I have experience with is the one that is utilized in Lord of the Rings Online. In their housing system, you've got the ability to:

decorate the interior

store things (extra inventory space)

rest

link with your alts (shared inventory)

mailbox outside the home to send/receive mail
I'd love for all of these things to be included.

Housing locations vary in style in LOTRO. You've got your hobbit houses, your elven houses and your dwarf houses. If something like that could be implemented for Blade and Soul (different races have different style houses), I think that would be cool.

I don't have a preference for instanced vs. non-instanced.

Things I'd like to see:

'Crafting at home' - If crafting requires a 'workbench' or some such in order to do so - have it in the house, perhaps even give a quality bonus and a time negative for doing something in your home.

'Party games' - small Party-like social instances where people do stuff like; run laps around the property, play go, play chess, what have you - an easy style mini-game thing that allows people to do stuff other than examine their surroundings. (Add more games or whatnot, even darts or something)

'Training dummies' and other interactive things - decorate your house with class-specific training items or the like, perhaps if you log out at home you can gain an increased 5% per item acquired (Which are acquired through leveling, not through instance/money grinding, they don't have to give you a bonus, but it would be nice). So if you click on a wooden Uke, as a Kung-fu master, you begin to go through training regimes of blocking and attacking the dummy. Great for RP purpose and to show off your skills. Pools and other things would also be neat.

'For the love of god, different sit animations'. - I am tired of seeing everyone sit the same way on no matter what furniture. Legs together, hands on knees, feet on floor - where's the lounging? Where's the die-hard serious posture - can I not cross my arms? Comeon, man. If I'm sitting on a couch, I am not going to have the same posture as if I'm sitting on a hard wooden chair. (Small thing, I know)

'Building materials' - choosing what your house is built from instead of just what 'model', this could give different textures, bump maps and character to your building.

'Slow implementation of upgrades' - actually having a scaffold and two little Lyns working on the building when you decide to put in a new room would be exceptionally cool to see (Not too functional) but it would add that 'feel' to the game.

'Spiritual charms, crosses, scarecrows' - objects able to be placed on the outside of the house to give the property a more personalized look. (Great for Halloween or X-mas celebrators online). Shrines could be considered under this.

Doors - As strange as it may be to put - doors would be lovely. Actually having doors of different style would go far for providing a certain air to a home - bead doorways, wooden doors, rolling doors, sliding doors - all of these say something when you see them in a building - they define it almost as much as what the building is made of.

It seems like us NA-ers have the similar wants and ideas as the Korean users.

-Interior/Exterior design.
-Extra space for storage.
-"Upgradable features" in homes such as making it larger
-Displaying trophies/items

I will post these 4 needs on the Korean forum either tonight or tomorrow. If there is anything else that can have the majority to agree on then I will include it in the post.
This is how the post will look (translated in Korean).

"Hello. I am from bladeandsouldojo.com which as of now is the number 1 fansite for Blade and Soul for english speakers. We gathered information on what the players in NA/EU want to see in player housing.
1. Large options for exterior/interior designing of the homes
2. Extra space for storage that is account bound and shared with the characters on the same account
3. Features that let players upgrade the size of homes
4. Display features for armor, weapons, and other "special" items.

Thank you and I hope that team bloodlust knows we have a fanbase in NA and EU that are rooting for you guys! Thank you!"

This is how the post will look. Please feel free to disagree or agree with the feature listed above. Remember, I am only putting in comments that the majority of us want. The poll will last another week so feel free to add even more ideas!

As far as customization and personalization goes, I would like to see something along the lines of PSN's Home, but without the capacity limitations and have more space regulation freedom.
Since it will most likely be more intuitive and powerful on the pc than the console versions, hopefully this will be attainable.

I would be more interested in the house locations. If you could decide to put your house in the middle of the woods, now that would be great.
If you're forced to buy a house in the middle of a huge city with tons of neighbors then no thank you :verymad:

Changing your interior is probably the main thing you can do to actually "make" it yours. Edited by Pontus

Please add Mini games.
I'd like some board games and some card games.
A lot of interactions would be very good.
