Blade & Soul Cash Shop Show

92 posts in this topic

(I apologize if there's already a topic on this)

http://steparu.com/previews/mmo-rpg-previews/909-blade-a-soul-cash-shop

I'm personally intrigued by how the cash shop is structured for B&S in South Korea.
What you can find there are weapon gems, accessories such as geek glasses, exclusive doboks/outfits and EXP boosters.

The best thing from the shop are the outfits that aren't bound to your character on purchase, so players are free to sell them at Auction for in-game money.
Looking at this, I think this would work out great for B&S in NA/EU if the game goes Buy-To-Play and includes this exact kind of cash shop. I'd support it.

I didn't know the ones from the shop could be traded o-o
That sounds really convienent ^^ and I'd be okay with a B2P model.

I like the idea of being able to sell the outfits in game. That'll make it easier to get outfits for alts and what not. I like things like this in a games cash shop as well, nothing that gives any sort of big advantage, just nice bonuses. I don't see them going buy to play though, pay to play simply makes more sense at least for the beginning, just to make back some money, and then switching to free to play later down the line, if at all.

It's important to note that this will trigger the same cycle that triggered in TERA after Chronoscrolls were added.
This is a good thing.

It kills goldseller's business, brutally.
No goldseller spam is good any day of the week.

I'd rather enjoy a buy to play model. > > Monthly payments would be difficult for me currently.

So long as cash shop clothes don't start having stats and crap to make them more appealing added on...or exclusive overpowered bo-pae start becoming an issue. >< I don't want to see the mistakes in F2P games touch BnS---which is why I'm willing to bite the bullet on monthly payments in the first place.

Are you sure? I've been seeing gold spammers all over main towns in GW2, and in that game you can buy gems directly for money and convert them into gold. Although I was told it was a scam, that you'd receive nothing if not just a phishing attempt. Either way a lack of market doesn't mean a lack of goldspammers..necessarily.

But I'm crossing my fingers as tight as possible for B2P. :joss_stick:
I get maybe 1 message a day in GW2 about that kind of thing and maybe 1 in-game mail every 2-3 days.
That's a vast improvement over the constant spam that WOW/AION had at launch and continue to even today. I recall in WOW I'd get nearly 10-20 in-game mails and several dozens of spam messages a day, during the first year of the game.

Fantastic! I see no issue here with the B2P with cash shop, as long as nothing is gained which could effect PVP ingame to give those with more money to spend on goodies an advantage.

Loving the choice in different race styles.
Not really.

If you think about it the act of buying exp to boost your character's leveling is generally used for two reasons:

People with multiple characters who want to hurry up and level their alts so it won't eat into time with their main.

People whom are impatient and want to level quickly.

I'm not going to go into total depth in how this isn't 'pay to win' but...I'll just state this:

In a game like BnS when you're playing a new class you get nothing out of leveling at light speeds unless you're doing it 'naturally'. If you don't take your time and get well acquainted with your skills, the timings, and general feel of the controls you'll actually be at a disadvantage. One whom has taken their time and become well accustomed to their skill sets are more able to make quick and logical decisions in combat. This goes with not only skill based games but most MMOs in general.

Knowing you class is experiencing all of it's hardships and learning how to deal with them efficiently.

That said a little exp boost isn't going to up anyone's a-game. Especially when we have bo-pae and gear to add up to this. (Though it might make a knowledgeable player more able to grind for gold and gear efficiently.)

Course if you're that smart you'll wait and learn what you can anyway.

Is there a way to reset the skill tree?
Wrong topic but yes, you can reset it with the second button in the bottom left. See screenshot below:

On Topic:

I dont know how good the Crystals for the weapons are but I dont like it when you can buy ingame items that actually give stats. I hope it stays at just crystals and they shouldnt be to strong either. Please no OP Bo-Pae sets for real money.
Constumes are awesome tho! Edited by Alleriya

About the exp boost item; I dont really mind it mostly for the reasons Kogane has already stated, its when things like gambling packs that give you a chance at suped-up/OP gear & weapons get involved in the cash shop is when real Pay2Win nightmares come into play.
Hopefully this will never happen though ._.
Nothing funnier than someone speed lvling and not really knowing how to pvp at all when it comes down to it. :P Edited by Fishcake

Cash shops are fine if they're linked back and forth with in-game currency. Once that's done, it's no different from you buying items from a merchant NPC in-game with your in-game earned money.
Or if you feel you wanna spend that $15/month on something, you can just buy something with cash off the shop, like a vanity armor or something of the sort.

IMO It's more under control than P2P.
Though either P2P or B2P would be fine with me, as long as there's no P2W strategy behind the shop.

I never liked cash shops, they tend to give too much advantage to people that can pay "more" than others....ok, i know it's normal to see one in a f2p game, but i was hoping not to have it on B&S...anyway, it's not like i'm going to leave the game for this.
I'll just cross my fingers and wait to see how many things they'll put on the cash shop (it's not a problem for costumes or decoration stuff, but i don't wanna see all that things to increase stats or exp...)

Please......do elaborate. Discussion is always better when we understand where you are coming from? How do purely cosmetic add-ons and one exp boosting item make your interest level in this game drop significantly?

It's not like EXP boosts give the person who buys them something you cannot get yourself. Sure they get there faster, but hey you can feel smug in the fact that you got there yourself without needing something extra!

Or, you know, you could just feel bitter that someone paid and got levels slightly faster than you. Whatever floats your boat.

Looks in games should depend on what you have achieved in the game, and not based on how much money you are willing to spend. Exp buffs and weapon crystals doesn't belong in p2p/b2p games. Edited by Shaigh

I do admit I got that kind of feeling when I read there was a cash shop as well---but only because they'd have it along with the P2P model. If it were B2P with a cash shop model It'd be different entirely---Especially if all the items are purely cosmetic and only involve things like maybe...increased exp or name changes or innocuous things like that.

As I've stated before exp boost items have no hold on me concern wise...and frankly we could all look at it like this:

Frequent payment to the game helps it run smoothly. It keeps the servers managed, it gives the people that work a paycheck to look forward to---and thus gives them incentive to work, it keeps content coming---and above all it keeps BnS from becoming just another good game that got trashed because of low scores on the market.

It's just all about HOW their marketing strategies and actions on the cash-shop affect how we all want.

...Right now we have no reason to assume our BnS is going to turn into a P2W foundation---we just have reason to hope that it doesn't.

Don't be so bothered about it. : D

cash shop is bad only if it features pay to win.
EXP boost? that's not pay to win. if a level 30 fights another level 30 with EXP boost, the boost won't make their hits stronger and harder. it won't make them run faster in combat, it won't increase their battle stats...... which then just lets us all see that you guys have no idea what 'pay to win' is.

if they wanna introduce a cash shop item that gives infinite run stamina, that would be fine, it does NOT effect combat. Edited by DayBreeze
