It looks vastly improved over 1.0 but I'm still getting a kind of "meh" feel.

I suppose I'd have to try it before commenting further.

Looking and playing much better than the original.

Can't wait to see some gameplay on the Summoner class.

The gameplay doesn't look fun. One has to be honest, it looks like a spammy 2004 mmorpg. Too much going on on-screen...I see no strategy other than spam.

It's saddening to see the gameplay that way when it could be much better. I will give it a chance but I'm not impressed.

I agree, although the graphics do look stunning, but that's not what matters. Hopefully there will be a flood of feed back and enough time to completely overhaul the combat system and make it fun :/

Sadly spammy 2004 MMORPG is a step up. XD

I dunno, I assume the storyline is what keeps people playing. I guess it might be worth a go just on story alone?

Well not every story based MMO does well, when the story ends people stop playing. If the developer gets it right and keeps releasing content episodically like the Walking Dead then that may work

Realize that these are only videos to demonstrate the game is actually running somewhat properly in the alpha build. The developers are just doing the simplest things possible. Even the first version of FFXIV has combo-skills and movement, the boss gameplay looked nothing like this.

Have a little bit of faith in Yoshida, people. He's a man who deserves your respect even and so does SE to an extent, even if the project fails. Which I hope sincerely it doesn't as Square are really pouring their in-house team on this and Lightning Returns.

I honestly don't care if they're trying. If they don't listen to fans I wouldn't care if the cease to exist. Square-Enix is digging themselves into their own grave, 100% on their own.

But Yoshida is listening to fans on their own boards and such. He's one of the tightest developer-player base connection people out there and that's even bolstered by his love for MMOs. What is it from all that's been happening that has given you an indication that they haven't been listening?

i played in the alpha the game runs a lot more smoothly now, also the game more enjoyable now do to the lack of a CPU devouring engine. the alpha didn't have a ton of content but it does have some new things in it i can't really tell you much more due to NDA. but its deffenately a different experience as for the comment about SE not listening to the players, they have been taking notes on what the players want and a large number of changes have occurred in fact the reason they scrapped the engine that 1.0 used is because that's what players wanted. so give it a chance.

I have to admit, looking around the main site, this game does look rather promising. I'm looking forward to checking it out.

I don't think ghastly was necessarily referring just to Yoshida, the game does look infinitely better, but maybe he was referring to Squeenix in general? Just look at versus, there's been incredibly little info on it in years. Type-0, apparently fans have been desperate for an English port but it's been over a year. Then there's the fact that this company used to create masterpieces, but the last decent ff was 10 imo. I can't help but agree with previous comments saying that they're incredibly out of touch with their fan base.

They're listening to the wrong fans. That gameplay looks bad. No one likes playing a spam spam spam game. The gameplay I've seen is full of magic flowing around, a bunch of spam attacks. That's not a fun a game. A fun game is one where you need to think.

Is it too late to overhaul the battle system? :3

A little too late for that, they would be pushed back at least six months

I actually wouldn't care if they spent another year on it, I just wanna see it done well ( I never thought I'd say that about a game )

You would probably be flamed for saying this by anyone who subbed for the current version for the longest time. The new version is being delayed long enough and they're already aiming for a summer release. SE is still running a risk of failure while trying to save this game in such a competitive market..

This is SE. Their game will have the classical MMO formula. If you're a seasoned mmo player, you might be tired of it and that's fine. They already said they're going to be tweaking the battle dynamics throughout beta testing, but expecting them to revamp or completely overhaul a core game system just shows how unrealistic your expectations are for a game with such a troubled history that could have been scrapped just as easily.

I wouldn't say expectations, more like hopes.... Fair point though :)

For the record, "spam" combat isn't as dull as you make it sound.

Maybe from a PVE perspective.

But waiting on cooldowns to reset on special abilities by spamming attacks to cause confusion is an incredible strategy in PVP and can throw off your opponent easily. But it has to be done wisely, or you may miss your chance to link it to special attacks.

For PVE, I think it's always going to be dull no matter what you do.

After you "absorb" all the mechanics and "learn it, you'll just do everything automatically/without thinking regardless, unless you're playing an RTS game, where the AI of your opponents can overpower you.

Back on topic; I am not playing the current phase, mostly 'cause SE can't verify my credentials (Even though they're all exactly as they were). But the few friends who are playing the current phase, keep giving me mixed reactions.

I am hoping it all ends positive in the end.

FF mmo isn't about pvp though. If I'm going to play FFXIV it's going to be for the PVE. I'm just not a fan of spam gameplay unless it's certain genres, not rpgs.

That's an incredibly difficult thing to balance for end game content, specially if raids are involved.

If it's single player, then it's easily balanced, the same way most normal RPG's are. But regardless, if you're going to make difficult PVE content with more than one person in mind; it's going to be tough to do.

TERA was close on that regard; but they blew it for more than obvious reasons. But even there, once you mastered your class, you could press buttons automatically.

Then again, I felt the same way with most classic and even recent FF games, except maybe Tactics (Though even that was still kind of easy to predict; despite the enemy AI being so random).

But if you were to throw in a second person; or more realistically, 5 or more; well, those count as random inconsistencies as well.

I'm not too motivated about PVP. I know the PVP in this game will be far from stellar.
