Ask Kona a Question Time~

77 posts in this topic

Now that we are nearing the end of the 2nd month of Blade & Soul (KR), it seems that I will most likely retire from playing the game for a while. I've managed to experience everything the game has to offer, including the current end-game contents. Now I'd like to take the time to create this thread for the purpose of answering any questions you might have for me. I will try my best to answer them with the current knowledge I have experienced in the game.

So feel free to ask me anything, but please be sure to keep it appropriate, and refrain from asking about game account related stuff (ex: how to setup an account, playing my account, buying time card, how to do this and that to play B&S, etc).

You may begin~

1. what is the best way to farm money?

The best way I was making money is solo'ing a boss. He drops a weapon box that obviously yields a weapon, from which you can break it down to get a rare crafting material and that was worth anywhere from 90 silver to 1 gold (or above) each and the boss run is like 5 minutes for me. Crafting is also a good way to make the most of your money, although when it comes to making items that is worth a lot, comes a hefty price in the material itself. So the marginal of profit is rather moderate, but it's still good money, depending upon what you make and how lucky you are.

2. is there a way to mark mobs/people? for example, in aion you could label things 1-6 and other icons to help other members in the party to see them in large crowds

Yes, there are party features like those that can be used to mark mobs, as well as a countdown timer, of course you need to be leader to do that. CTRL+1 is the timer, and CTRL+2 through 8 or 9, is marking the target with your choice of symbols.

3. is it possible to dual box?

Maybe, I do see bots that did that. Not sure for the players.

4. what is your favorite feature of the game?

I have many, but I'll list some I like personally. The roulette wheel is a nice feature in the game that helps you gear up to make your leveling journey easy and looking good in the process. The RNG to winning a specific reward from the wheel can be frustrating for some people, but it's not that bad now. My most favorite feature is the use of Qing Qong in this game. I really like having to sprint, glide and climb walls to get around in the world, instead of riding a mount. Anyway, that's it for now.

5. how long did it take you to reach level cap and how many hours a day did you play on average?

After rerolling on a new server, it took me 2 days to reach Lv.36 with a total playtime of 58 hours (I slacked a bit). After the Lv.36 cap was changed to Lv.45, that took me about 2-4 days to reach Lv.45 with excessive grinding that I did on my own accord. Average hours is 10 to 15 hours a day. If you really tried, you could probably hit Lv.45 within a week or so.

6. would you recommend the game to others? after playing the korean retail version, do you think you'll play the north america release? (or wherever you're from)

I would certainly recommend it, especially for the sake of wanting to try a new MMO for the hell of it. I might play the NA release, although I'm not entirely sure. The game still has quite a bit of work to do in various aspects that definitely needs improving. Eventually.

7. did you enjoy the pvp aspect of the game?

Lag set aside, PvP'ing against other players is rather fun, enjoyable and fast, but the PvP contents that are currently available is just terrible right now. All you basically do is grind, or do PvP dailies to get your crafting material crystal, get the necessary rank for a weapon, or to obtain an item needed for your Wall Running quest, although getting that is much easier now since the required rank is 8, instead of 6. Grinding to rank 6 is painfully long back then.

Right now there is many flaws with the PvP aspect of this game, but hopefully someday they will fix that. We'll see in due time.

I hope that answers your questions, feel free to ask more if needed.

I think for the first couple months, it certainly did. Although as of now, it seems the Koreans went off to play something else, since my group to do Pohwaran (the final dungeon) has been missing for days. Then again, there's really not much else to do once you get what you want from the final boss.

im still a bit shocked it took you just about a week to hit max lvl.. do you think that they will raise the lvl cap? or does the questline suggest otherwise?

Only a week is quite surprising, but does this also mean that everyone wants the leveling..

to be a bit more of a grind ?

Yeah, they will raise the level cap. The main story quest won't resume until Lv.46 and judging from yesterday's recent patch, they nerfed the amount of EXP needed to reach Lv.45 by nearly half of what it used to be, which is probably a sign for preparation of new contents soon. This would mean I could reach Lv.45 a little bit sooner than a week, and an average player who plays for 4-5 hours a day would most likely reach Lv.45 in 1-2 weeks about a month, or so at most.

After the nerf for the EXP needed to level up, I think the game will be less of a grind now. Although, I guess I will truly find out while I'm leveling an alt to Lv.45.

I just started the game so here are some newbie questions if you dont mind answering ^^

(Im playing a Blade Master)

1. Whats the easier way to make gold in earlier levels? (I need more bag space etc)

2. I cant read the set bonus so, is it worth the effort to get the Bope sets or just use random that gives the best stats? (for leveling up)

3. From what I noticed I can only have 4 professions at a time, which ones match? Like gathering/producing? Or they all stand on their own?

4. Some players have that long scarf-looking-trail-thingy when they run, how do i get that?

5. The Doboks are completely superficial and have no impact what so ever in your stats/game? (Except the PvP one that i heard of...)

6. Is there a way to find out what I need to identify a certain item or repair hammers without actually knowing any korean? (I can read korean, cant understand tho)

7. What is this wheel i keep hearing about? How to use it?

Sorry if its too noobish... And thank you! ^^

1. Whats the easier way to make gold in earlier levels? (I need more bag space etc)

I wouldn't worry too much about trying to earn gold at an early level, as there are a hefty amount of items that are crafted which is worth very little at early levels and can be expensive to make. For now, just keep leveling and try to AH, or vendor the items you happen to pick up along the way.

2. I cant read the set bonus so, is it worth the effort to get the Bope sets or just use random that gives the best stats? (for leveling up)

Equip them in sets, since the stat bonuses are worth it. Try not to equip them individually and randomly scramble every non-matching piece, even if they do have good stats on it.

3. From what I noticed I can only have 4 professions at a time, which ones match? Like gathering/producing? Or they all stand on their own?

You can have 2 crafting and 2 gathering. For every craft, usually comes with a gathering to support it. An example would be something like if you took up Potion craft, then you would need an Herb gathering, since those are your main materials for that particular craft. Every craft can stand on their own, but only if you just want to buy the materials from the AH and not gather them yourself.

4. Some players have that long scarf-looking-trail-thingy when they run, how do i get that?

That is a Force Master's weapon and the glow trail-effects are for them only.

5. The Doboks are completely superficial and have no impact what so ever in your stats/game? (Except the PvP one that i heard of...)

The doboks are entirely cosmetic, however you must have a dobok equipped, and it can be any kind of dobok, in order for the bopae to activate to give you your stats and bonuses. Running around in your birthday suit would simply deactivate the bopaes and not give you any stats, until you equip a dobok. PvP/Faction doboks are simply for flagging yourself for PvP and to do PvP quest dailies, which will only show up on the map if you have them equipped.

6. Is there a way to find out what I need to identify a certain item or repair hammers without actually knowing any korean? (I can read korean, cant understand tho)

Have to get back to you on this one, since I'm not sure what you mean exactly.

7. What is this wheel i keep hearing about? How to use it?

For every other quest-hub area during your leveling journey, you will find 2 roulette wheels. If you see those, then would mean there is a field boss nearby for you to kill and earn a token from. The number of tokens you can get from a single field boss is 1 to 3.

When you do loot a token from the boss, then you can use that token to spin the wheel and win prizes like food, potion, bopae, dobok, head accessories (and dobok accessories too, if applicable) and a weapon scroll. If you win a weapon scroll, talk to the vendor NPC standing closely next to the wheel and you can buy your weapon with it.

If you can, I would like to know more about the PvP aspects of the game,

What was your class, Did you have trouble against another class in particular ?

Do the classes seem balanced ?

Is there any other merit to PvP besides the daily quests I've read about ?

(Like a ranking or organized pvp)

Was it enjoyable ?

What was your class, Did you have trouble against another class in particular ?

I played as an Assassin and I did not have too much trouble with some of the classes like another Assassin, Blade Master, or Kung Fu Master. I think the other class I sometimes have difficulty with is against Force Master, and Summoner, if they know what's coming to them. Destroyer is by far the most difficult class to deal with as an Assassin.

Do the classes seem balanced ?

It's really hard to say, I mean every class has their own unique escape, or combo mechanism to easily turn the tables around. So, I guess in terms of abilities that are currently available to all the classes, it can be moderately balanced in that particular field. Stat-wise? Absolutely not. We have two offensive stats that can turn PvP into a game of Rock-Paper-Scissor (more-so than it already is). One is Attack Power, and two is Critical Damage. When these two stats are used together, it throws the word "balance" completely out the window.

We also have defensive stats such as Evasion or Block that can be stacked too, that makes it so your opponent either heals up on every evade/parry, or enter a CC immunity state temporarily. Due to these clever use of the game's mechanic, it's hard to judge with certainty whether it is balanced or not, at least for me anyway.

Is there any other merit to PvP besides the daily quests I've read about ? (Like a ranking or organized pvp)

Unfortunately there is not much else in PvP. I suppose other than PvP dailies, there are some powerful NPC bosses that players team up against to farm tokens to buy a new faction outfit, or head/mask accessories. There is a ranking, but that's just for allowing you the privilege to purchase items that is rank required, rather than a ranking ladder kind of thing to compete against other players on who has the most points, or whatever.

Was it enjoyable ?

I find it more enjoyable to PvP against other players, either in a 1:1, or against a small group that I might stand a chance against and still barely making it out alive. Do I find the PvP contents in this game to be enjoyable? Not really.

:)

nope. average players dont play 15 hours a day.

15 hours per day X 2 weeks (14) = 210

i get around 4-5 hours a day to play. 210 / 5 = 42 days

it takes average players a month to reach cap. which fits when i see both CBT3 and OBT i only hit lvl 31 in my limited time,

Fair enough. At least now people know mathematically how long it will take them to reach level cap if they do decide to play with a similar amount of hours as you do.

Thank you very much for the answers!

6. Is there a way to find out what I need to identify a certain item or repair hammers without actually knowing any korean? (I can read korean, cant understand tho)

About this, i found the answer on: http://steparu.com/forums?func=view&catid=41&id=13186

One more thing... Is this information still correct? What about green gems? What do they do?

Thank you!

The gems are still correct, however I only listed the ones that are most useful and have tested. The other gems don't seem to merit any special use that will help you all that much. Although, I suppose I can find out what the rest of the gems do when I have the time to do so.

Anyway, I'm going to assume you're talking about these gems.

The left one deals damage to the target and the right one heals upon an auto-parry (Not your manual skill one, as that would obviously be overpowered).

what do you think about the content?

As of currently, the contents are pretty good, especially if you took your time with everything the game has to offer, watching the cinematics and doing some occasional sight-seeing, etc. However, in my case it was rather short lived, since I wanted to get straight into the end-game as soon as possible. I've already reached the level cap multple times in beta, so why else would I take my time at this point? All in all, the contents are good, but it needs more, especially if it were to meet the expectations for the NA/EU audiences.

do you think will it last long?

If you play to reach the level cap quick, and farm gear to tackle on the end-game's current content in the shortest amount of time (like say a week or so), it might last you about 2 months (or less). Maybe 3 months if you want to do extra work to farm the best and maximized stats on your weapon, accessories, and bo pae. I guess if you really took your time and thoroughly farmed the normal/heroic dungeons for weapons, outfits, accessories, bo pae and doing other stuff like crafting, PvP, or whatever, then perhaps 3-4 months or so.

The game is still going a bit strong right now, and it hasn't been a full 2 months just yet. So I suppose I'll find out what's happening in the coming months ahead.
