Assassin Skill Build [Pve]

Recommended Posts

Dream

These first skills are an absolute must-have for assassins. You should get all of these as soon as possible.

Mist Slash Tier 1 Level 2-2

6p9po.jpg

Applies 1 stack of poison and bleeding per hit.

Any extra damage is good damage. You'll also need the poison stacks if you want to do anything as Assassin at all.

Back Stab Tier 2 Level 4

6p9p9.jpg

Deals high damage and breaks stealth. Regenerates 3 chi.

Why no stun you ask? Lightning Slash does it better. There is no discussion here.

Once you run out of chi for Heart Stab or the poison stacks are about to wear off, use this. It's great damage to boot.

Heart Stab Tier 1 Level 4

6p9oG.jpg

Activates stealth when used on a target with 5 stacks of poison, and refreshes the stealth timer to 6 seconds upon each succesful hit. Instantly casts when in stealth. Every 4th consecutive cast will not consume Chi

The bread and butter skill for assassins. Whenever an enemy has 5 stacks of poison (which should be as soon as possible) use this skill. High damage, highly spammable, and with the Limit Soul's Weapon buff, you can cast this indefinitly until the poison stacks wear off. If they are about to, just reapply them with Poison Shuriken or Back Stab + Mist Slash

Flash Dodge Level 2

6p9o1.jpg

After being knocked down, weakened or stunned, tumble backwards and activate stealth for 6 seconds. Blinds all enemies within range for 2 seconds, and obscures their hearing. Regenerates 5 Chi.

Your primary escape skill. Don't bother getting Level 3 on this for PvE as monsters rarely have Grab/Choke skills, and if they do, you can't use it anyway because it's likely a boss move.

Shuriken Tier 1 Level 1

6p9lt.jpg

Regenerates 2 Chi instead of 1.

Not much else to say here. Use Shuriken whenever you're not in range for any other skill. It chains perfectly into your LB combo as well, as there is a slight pause after the third slash as the combo loops to Mist Slash again. LB LB LB X LB LB LB X (repeat) should be your main standard combo the moment you get shuriken.

---------------------------------------------------

For the following skills, the decision is entirely up to you. These are all optional, meaning that once you hit level 28 (pretty early eh? n.n), the main combat style of assassins won't change a lot anymore. Experiment and find what works best for you!

Dragon Kick Tier 2 Level 3

6IEHZ.jpg

Deals high damage on a knocked down/seized enemy. No longer AoE. Deals more damage if the enemy has 5 poison stacks.

This is an amazing skill that players, including myself, seem to forget about, despite it being just about the only skill we can use on knocked down/seized enemies. It can be casted 3 times on an enemy seized by a KFM or a Summoner's Cat, possibly more (or less) depending on your ping, and deals incredible damage, which is boosted if the target has 5 poison stacks. (which it should, regardless). Certainly worth getting.

Sneak Tier 1 Level 1 OR Sneak Tier 2 Level 2 (Assault)

6p9re.jpg6p9rY.jpg

-Sneak-

Activates stealth for 6 seconds when used at the back of a target. Has a 6 second cooldown.

This allows you to sneak everytime stealth wears off, which can make certain dungeons an absolute joke as you never get detected.

-Assault-

Stuns a target for 2 seconds. Activates stealth for 6 seconds when used at the back of a target. Has a 30 second cooldown.

This skill allows you to stun anything on sight before they even spot you, without having to first Sneak and then Back Stab/Lightning Slash. It also allows you to solo CC bosses with the combination of Lightning Slash(4) -> Backstep (SS) -> Assault(1), as assault doesn't need to activate stealth to stun.

Shadow Slash Tier 1 Level 4 (Single Target) OR Shadow Slash Tier 3 Level 4 (AoE)

6IEGE.jpg6p9kS.jpg

-Shadow Slash | Single Target-

Deals damage twice. Applies a layer of poison per cast. Deals more damage on choked/grabbed enemies. Can be cast consecutively up to 5 times on a choked/grabbed enemy.

Use this when a Destroyer or LBM grabs or chokes a boss for heavy damage. Keep in mind that the skill window only display a single hit's Skill Damage. The actual damage per cast is twice that (or 4x that, if you crit, not counting Critical Damage increases)

Note: This one's a bit ping reliant, so unless you have lower than 240ms (which should be fairly easy to reach with a decent booster) you'd rather use the AoE version and stick to Heart Stab for attacking choked/grabbed enemies. Even at 230ms you're still going to have to use this skill almost instantly after a boss is choked/grabbed or you won't be able to cast all 5 hits.

-Shadow Slash | AoE-

Deals damage twice in a 2*3m AoE range. Applies a layer of poison. Cripples and knocks down enemies.

Great for AoEing, and can be used for Knockdown CC in case the party you're in is lacking in CC during boss fights. Also allows you to trigger Shadow Shuriken.

Poison Breath Tier 1 Level 2 OR Poison Breath Tier 2 Level 3 (Poison Moth)

6p9sP.jpg6IEOW.jpg

-Poison Breath-

Deals high damage for 5 times in a wide frontal AoE.

Another great AoE skill, and one of your more spammable ones. Combine this with Red Mist flower, as it will pull all poisoned enemies. The damage is very nice as well.

-Poison Moth-

Deals damage over time. Has a range of 16m.

Great for highly mobile enemies, such as Huo Pao Lan, as Assassin copes with a severe lack of proper ranged skills. Not advised for your everyday grinding though.

Mine Tier 2 Level 3 (Grenade) OR Mine Tier 3 Level 3 (Air Grenade) OR Mine Tier 4 Level 2 (Smokescreen)

6IEJl.jpg6p9tL.jpg6IEKZ.jpg

-Grenade-

Throws a grenade at the target, dealing high AoE damage. Has a cooldown of 9 seconds.

Great for some quick burst damage while AoEing, and fairly spammable. Also wonderful for some quick burst damage when you're unable to stay close to a target. (such as Huo Pao Lan during her Ice Mine attack or Flame Demon after his rolling attack)

-Air Grenade-

Throws a grenade at the target, dealing high AoE damage. Deals additional damage to airborne targets. Has a cooldown of 36 seconds.

This skill is flat out your single highest possible damage skill. Launch a target and grenade will almost double in damage. If you're experienced enough you can use Swallow Kick(LB) -> Grenade (Z) -> Silver Web (RB) -> Air Dive (LB). There is enough time to bind an enemy before it hits the ground after a grenade.

-Smokescreen-

Protects anyone within the smokescreen from all ranged attacks.

This one is situational, but you should still be aware of it. It is absolutely vital for things such as Flame Demon's Fireball attack and Fish King's water spray (1st boss in Sea Snake Supply Base) and helps out a lot during bosses that rely on magic or guns like the Force Master boss in Sea Snake Supply Base.

Shuriken Tier 1 Level 3 (Poison Shuriken) OR Shuriken Tier 2 Level 3 (Shadow Shuriken)

6p9xq.jpg6qvyK.jpg

-Poison Shuriken-

Applies 1 stack of poison and bleed per hit. Applies 2 stacks if it is a critical hit. Recharges 2 Chi. Consumes 1 Chi in stealth instead.

If you have the Limit Souls Weapon, you can use Poison Shuriken to restack poison on a target to continue Heart Stabbing without ever having to leave stealth. It also makes getting 5 poison stacks on a target pretty easy combined with Mist Slash.

-Shadow Shuriken-

Applies Shadow Bind on a crippled target, slowing them by 30% for 15 seconds, and allowing the use of Shadow Step. Shadow Step will stealth you for 2 seconds and weakens a target for 2 seconds.

Gives you another skill to use, which is never bad. Note that Shadow Shuriken has its own cooldown, and you can still use normal Shurikens during it. Once you've applied Shadow Bind onto a target (which you can easily see due to the huge marking pin sticking out of an enemy's body) a new F skill will appear for you to use, Shadow Step. Combine Shadow Step with Kenpuku (the skill that activates when you Backstep (SS) or dodge something) to weaken a boss.

Shadow Dance Tier 1 Level 4 (Self Heal) OR Shadow Dance Tier 2 Level 4 (Damage)

6IEMc.jpg6p9mw.jpg

-Shadow Dance | Self Heal-

Heals you for 20% of the damage dealt. You are completely immune during this skill. Heals you by 2% of your HP for every resisted attack. You remain completely immune for another second after this skill ends.

With a high enough crit rate, combined with an Amethyst Gem, you will heal a LOT with this skill. You also have to worry less about mistiming the iframes of this skill as you get another second worth of them.

-Shadow Dance | Damage-

Does not regenerate HP anymore. Deals more damage than previous levels. Applies a stack of poison upon each succesful hit. You are completely immune during this skill.

A great way to get 5 poison stacks on an enemy right away. The damage is fairly high as well. Unlike above however, the iframes end as soon as the skill ends, so be careful.

Note: This skill is easily cancelled by using anything else. As such, you can quickly chain Heart Stab into the damage tree of Shadow Dance by cancelling the 5th hit of Shadow Dance with Mist Slash. It also alleviates the lack of an extra second of iframes by being able to hit Q as the skill is about to end, in case you activated the skill too soon and you're about to get hit.

Purple Mist Flower Tier 1 Level 2 (Evasion) OR Purple Mist Flower Tier 2 Level 4 (Support) OR Purple Mist Flower Tier 3 Level 4 (Red Mist Flower)

6p9nb.jpg6IENy.jpg6p9vc.jpg

-Purple Mist Flower | Evasion-

Regenerates 3 Chi and 5% HP upon warping back to Mist Flower. You are immune during warp and for 1 second after.

As assassins lack any passive chi regeneration, if you ever find yourself with 0 Chi while walking through a dungeon, just plant a flower and warp to it to give yourself 3 Chi again. As you are immune for as long as you're warping to the Mist Flower, as well as one second afterwards, you can use this to dodge...just about any boss attack. Note that while planting the Mist Flower breaks stealth, warping to it does not, providing you with an extra Heart Stab if you run out of Chi.

-Purple Mist Flower | Support-

Warps any crawling, reviving or completely dead player to the flower. Does not work on players in a transitional animation (such as the moment they die until they can crawl, between crawling and being completely dead, etc).

Situational, but in a party that has members that are prone to die, or for warping players out of a boss's aggro range after losing a battle, it is still a very helpful skill. Just make sure you don't have the boss's aggro when you warp reviving players near your flower, lest you kill them all! n.n

-Red Mist Flower-

Warps any poisoned enemy within range of the Mist Flower towards the Mist Flower, and weakens them for 3 seconds.

Great AoE skill, as it gives you a lot of control about where your enemies are as well as groups everything up in one spot for you to nuke with various other AoEs. Combine this with Silver Strings (Yes, this skill is AoE!) by tumbling back before activating the Mist Flower, and you can knock down, pull and weaken, or damage all enemies you just warped. Ofcourse, this skill does not work on bosses, so just go with Purple Mist Flower for those.

It's a decent build, most of the core skills that are needed that are feasible with the amount of skill points you have are there however there's a skill I don't really agree on, one is Shadowdance, the left skill tree(1 - 4) is much better for PVE (Bosses) it has a longer invulnerability frame, using tree (2 - 4) means you can start to be hit during the last hit of the combo, meanwhile skill (1 - 4) keeps you invulnerable for another 1-2 seconds after the skill is finished. I also prefer grenade (2 - 3) or mist (4 - 3) over the skill tree you picked, you say the main reason for grenade (4 - 3) is for aerial combos but most of the times Aerial combos are pretty worthless,(2 - 3) has a shorter cooldown and still does high damage, and Mist (4 - 3) is good for bosses that have long range attacks, an example in CN would be like The Ruthless Fish king or Poh.

Of course if you merely meant this as a PVE grinding build then I guess all of the above isn't particularly necessary. These are just my thoughts as a Assassin from the KR server.

I meant it more as a general PvE build. Not bosses or grinding in particular. Perhaps Shadow Dance could be moved to the optional skills.

As for grenade/smokescreen, it's all up to the player. They're in the "optional" skill part for a reason. I'll have to disagree that the lower CD Grenade is better than the Air Grenade though. The damage is fairly mediocre, and it costs 3 chi, when you couldd just be heart stabbing. It's fine if you prefer it though. To each their own.

Meh, I don't actually use the grenade(Besides for Mushin Foor 12), I just thought for general mobbing purposes its better with the lower cool down.

Shuriken 1T3 is a must have for any pve build since you can stack 5 poison stacks fast and recovery all energy points fast too out of stealth. since i have high ping my LB is slow as hell so i use a mix of LB,X,LB,X fast to recover my orbs faster and deal a good dmg out of stealth.

Not quite, I put Shuriken at 1T1 for "base build" since it regens chi just as fast, and, while it does not stack poison, it allows you to regen Chi in stealth as well. Before aquiring the Limit Soul's weapon, you'll have no way to regen Chi in stealth outside of 1T1 Shuriken, which you'll want to be able to either solo bosses or the ability to exit stealth with Shadow Slash/Lightning Slash/Back Step(If you went with the stun version, which I don't advise)

It still happens often that I do not skill Poison Shuriken, because getting 5 poison stacks on an enemy isn't exactly very hard with or without it. Hence optional.

Update!

I never thought Dragon Kick was actually worth skilling, but after using it a while, I must say, I couldn't have been more wrong. 3.2k non crit on a knocked down target? I'm starting to like having KFMs in my parties, which I used to despise.

Shadow Slash's single target tree is more useful the lower your ping is. The moment you can't cast it 5 times on a choke is when Heart Stab is better, so test this one for yourself. 220ms should generally be "safe" for all 5 hits.

Moved Shadow Dance to optional and included the healing tree. Added a note about cancelling the skill for better chaining.

Added the support tree of Purple Mist Flower.

Added Smokescreen and normal Grenade. Removed Mine Tier 1 Level 2, the standard, unskilled mine works just as well and doesn't use up any SP.

I wanna share my skill build too, its hybrid style which was the main style before they had big patch, and it is still very useful in PVE.

*the translation might be slightly different from in game translation. QAQ

I wrote this because lots of people think assassin can only deal dmg in stealth.

My link

3 points on Mist Slash: to increase animation canceling dmg and also Qi generate.

4 points on Heart Stab: to have instant cast when target is under stunned/ dazed/ seized/ grabbed, and poison stab if your counter with decoy in 0.5sec

and also instant cast in stealth stance

2 points on Shadow kill: this one is for decoy stance (which means you are not in stealth stance Kappa.) it costs more qi but it provides higher dps than lighting kill if you

can keep the target with 5 stacks of poison as much as possible.

1 point on Stealth(TAB): usually we don't need this skill in PVE if we manage our skills well and dodge all the skills/atks from target. 1 point for insurance.

3 points on Infiltrate: 3 points for the 6 sec cool down, which allows you stay in stealth when you don't have 5 stacks of poison on target.

3 points on shadow slash : this one depends on person, I just enjoy the burst dmg when my team has a destroyer/ LBM and I cast it when they grab the boss.

burst dmg around 14k.

2 points on poison wine: to have 5 stacks of poison every 45 sec, 2 points for higher dmg but we can spec only 1 point and put this to another useful skill.

2 points on lighting rend or Circle of Flight: one for dmg one for defense. chose flight to resist some deadly skill from bosses (ex. Blackwyrm)

2 points on throwing bomb: to stack 1 poison

2 points on shuriken: for higher Qi generate and dmg while your animation canceling

2 points on shadow step: get the daze effect, which allows you to do cc on bosses, combo with leaf shift ( use after decoy or back step)

3 points on Lots fury: allows you to resist some huge dmg from bosses or either use it to make poison shuriken available.

2 points on left step: I like the 8 m cast range and its good to get into stealth too.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I will briefly explain how it works in the combat(hotkey to replace the skills name):

Use 1 to the front of the boss (99% evade 1 time use) and 4 for 5 stacks of poison, then tab ( when you hit poisoned target you get into stealth) + 2 (time bomb).

use either tab (can change back to decoy stance anytime when you are in stealth) or LB ( which I don't recommend because it stuns target and it might cause other teammates' cc failed.

Now you have 10+7 sec to do animation canceling, RB+F+LB+X loop. with 2 points on shuriken and 3 points on mist slash, you don't run out your qi.

Dodge any skills from the environment or target with your skills but make sure you don't waste much time in stealth if these resist skills changed your stance.

Usually, if you can deal 100% dmg during this 17 sec, you will be the tank (main target.) Take this as advantage and resist bosses skill and get the chance to use poison shuriken for stacking poison.

Poison shuriken (1) Throwing Bomb (1) shadow step (1) combo with shadow step + leaf step --> dazed on boss and shadow slash (1)

either poison shuriken or shadow step would be available again, and we can have another 10 sec of 5 stacks of poison.

You will still need to get in stealth stance sometimes, for the dps( RB+F) and also stack poison.

Even in this skill build you still can use Teleport(RB) to get into stealth (6 sec) -> SS+1 (6 sec) + X (shadow step) -> tab (6 sec) to keep around 18 sec in stealth.

You still can use 2 (decoy) to get poison stab and get into stealth, also your Q is very useful to have poison shuriken.

Against mobs, since they can be cced with only one skill, you can combine with all your cc and have yours heart stab instant cast.

ex. Teleport to target, shadow step and deal dmg before you run out stealth time, back stab to stun and another 2 sec for animation canceling, then X again, 2 sec, decoy and leaf step -> another 3 sec. These are range skills (shadow step and leaf step) so it saves some time from finding a good place to use infiltrate to get in to stealth, If you chose lighting kill (which is all stealth style), you can't enjoy these amazing mechanics. :)

I know lighting kill (stealth style) is really good on dps, but we need more skill points and also crit rate is not enough by now.

I like your build. I haven't gotten around to doing dark build yet, as i've only done lightning build. I feel like Dark Build is inferior due to not having the HM skills on LB, RB, and 3. Those 3 skills really change up the damage potential, chi recovery, and poison stacking of dark build. I do like that the CC potential in dark build is much better (since you don't mind being in decoy stance after using the CC abilities). I also pull aggro like crazy in lightning build (which I don't notice until after I exit stealth). It could be from BMs/KFMs not speccing/tanking correctly, but I think it could also be my damage in stealth. When I can get a run of crits it gets pretty insane.

I'll give your build a shot during next beta (maybe with a few changes to suit my playstyle better).
