Instead of posting videos no one will watch I will say this it's a shame that metal is evolving into crap...

Only the bands that came from the 1980s-1990s era are still making good metal.

Big thumbs up to Megadeth for their 2000s albums, solid stuff.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you there in terms of metal evolving into crap. Though I would like to know why you think this way.

That's a very narrow view of the metal world out there. Metal has very much evolved and branched out to various specifics whether you're looking for metal bands with tempo changes, technique, polyryhtms, vocals, or plain-complex song structure. For me metal i've always and still love is progressive metal which uses a dynamic/complex compositional structures, and skilled instrumental playing or stuff like Dream Theater Tool, etc. There are many unsigned bands out there today that I listen to who can play on the calibur of what Dream Theater dishes out and very often you will find those who will go above and beyond of what they've created. So I say the good stuff is always around if you know where to look and the same concept applies to any genre of music. If you can't find anything good from America look to other countries for that sound you're looking for that you adore.

The Dream Theaters, the Dragon Forces, the Triviums...

imo they bring nothing new other than complex songs. I'm not looking for who can move their fingers faster on a guitar or who can double pedal faster. Then there's those that act as if they're in an orchestra "melodic metal"

The problem with metal in general could be that it's not mainstream anymore and to be honest I'm not going out of my way to spend hours looking for underground bands that might have some original and engaging. But that's me.

There's a certain flare that 1970s-80s metal bands bring that newer bands just can't match up to, imo.

lol... they might not be totally original, but each song is one of a kind ghastly, u cant reinvent Nirvana or Iron Maiden, and there are only so many things that can be Fresh new... i personally like those bands, all though lately im fascinated with Foo Fighters's Wasted Light albumXD

I'm more a fan of the sub group of Post Hardcore with bands such as Underoath, MSWhite, and other things.

Just a few bands that make me very very happy.

I like only black metal, death metal, and progressive stuff aka djent, deathcore and metalcore.

Heavy Metal is ok but... I dunno, I like more brutal stuff.

Around these days I mostly listen to Dimmu Borgir, Dying Fetus, Applaud The Impaler, Dead By April, August Burns Red, As I Lay Dying, Kalmah, Kataklysm, Cradle of Filth (only 3 songs), Atreyu, Born of Osiris, Bullet For My Valentine, Lamb of God and Stormlord.

I've been listening to metal since 2001.

I despise rock, I hate every note ever played in that genre.

Yes that includes your dear Nirvana, AC/DC and stuff like that.

Interesting how you dislike 'rock', but like a variety of metal.

Since Metal (and punk) both come forth from rock,

you'd say anyone who likes metal has an affinity with rock as well...peculiar.

i was rereading this now, and i find it interesting how ghastly actually dished on metal... 1970's-90's metal... you are trying to say Metallica is awesome? Frankly, after their first album, they music started declining in awesomeness. I give a hand out to Iron Maiden for making awesome albums from the beginning to the end though. as far as metal being only too complex and fast fingerings... if that was the case, there would be no rhythm what so ever had it been only who can play the fastests lol or the loudest. There is a Reason and meaning behind every fret in most metal songs... granted bands like Pantera just shredd like insane, but than again i dont really like that Extremely violent Black metal. BUt koodoes for being amaizing with their instruments. I generally appreciate music that is made with people who have talent on instruments... I despise rappers and pop musicians in general, for that bullshit lip synch singing on concerts like britney spears and such... anywho METAL FTW

Great stuff posted so far, everyone. I'll enjoy listening to each of these artists. Here are a couple of my current favorites.

Alright, this post might take me a bit. Metal is my all time favorite genre and is mainly what I play on guitar, closely followed by classical, neo classical, and blues.

Here we go.

^ An all time favorite, so epic.

Should be enough for now, just listing them as they play and whatever I switch to at the time.

I was going to chime in on this, but this isn't a debate thread ;)

Metal thrives on creativity and lacks the moral "You have to do it like this" unlike most other genres. Hence why it has so many sub genres and why most metal bands branch out into ballads, instrumentals, pop covers, and even country tunes(Avenged Sevenfold, anyone?).

Everyone has an opinion on what is metal and what isn't.. When in truth, it is all metal. They just don't realize it ;)

And I agree, Megadeth put out a solid album for a comeback.. Unlike Metallica..

never heard too much of 'Maiden, but what I heard was very nice indeed.

Tho they are more along the lines of hard-rock, to me, anyways.

(doesn't make em less good, mind you)

Also: I heard you say "Black mages anyone?"

If you like the BM, maybe you can appreciate Demetori as well (if you don't know em yet.

A metal band that covers their own style Touhou tracks. Some very nice pieces there.

Death Metal and Black Metal is what I usually listen to. One of my favorite bands is Taake:

I also like the more raw and primitive style, such as Urgehal:

I often listen to more atmospheric stuff, like Skagos for example:

As far as Death Metal is concerned, I prefer the 90's style, usually Swedish.

Or it's the Darkened/Blackened style.

I gotta say I always appreciate some good Goregrind.

And sometimes you're just in the mood for some Funeral Doom, where Evoken are undoubtedly the masters:

I could probably go on...
