What's funny about that is that I played the beta knowing that there were classes I wasn't going to want to touch with a 10-foot pole. So ... I played them: Mystic, Priest, Lancer, Berserker, Slayer. Those were the ones that I wasn't planning to play at launch, so I played them in the beta. I fell in love with Mystic. I love blocking with Lancer and Berserker. Priest is very similar to Mystic in many ways (at least for the first 20 levels). Slayer falls towards the end for me, but still very enjoyable.

:embarrassed:

My plan for launch was to play Sorcerer, Archer and Warrior. Now I find myself thinking of alts to throw into the other classes and more than likely the characters I rolled during beta will be remade in some approximation to fill these other roles.

yeah, getting to Korscha and concluding that the game is not good for whatever reason is simply not enough. The game itself is rather boring and uneventfull untill level 20 because i believe its a period where you learn how to dodge and time your skills right, as wel as create useful combos with what u got. After lvl 20, new skills come to play that make you go, "Oh shit did i just do 3k hit?" the difference on my slayer between kills was almost baffling. Pre lvl 20, it took me several combos in order to finish up a monster, where after lvl 20,( around lvl 23 i believe i was) it took me one combo to kill a monster my level. Once you get the hang of it, the game picks up greatly after 20+. At 30+ the game becomes Difficult, because at this point, u dont want mobs to atk you much, because it will drain the crap out of you, so the whole dodge, Bam bambam, dodge gameplay comes to play:D in anycase, i suggest everyone to try to get to at least lvl 35 with a class, because thats the point that will make or break the class for ya, but it will definatelly give ya a real taste of whats the game all about, Unlike Island of dawn... lol

I hope those changes they have scheduled for OBT will address the poor story introduction to the game and ramp up difficulty for Isle of Dawn. Quite honestly, that place is far too easy. Even the Lv 11-27 areas are relatively easy, unless you decide to pick on BAM at Lv 20 (At this point, it'll depend on how good you are at your class and of course, on which class you're playing.

If they fix the above, I think the game will pick up for a LOT of people (Including Lithia).

But until then, I have to partially agree. The game is very lackluster in the introduction levels.

For me, the story didn't pick up until Lv 25+

The yellow/random quests were still generic with the occasional escort (These get pretty hard later on).

But the red/mission quests became interesting. Some would send me in some crazy dangerous outdoor dungeons and introduce memorable characters (On MMOG standard for memorable here).

The game itself picked up the most for me, at Lv 30+ though.

BAM became really challenging and my combos became flat out ridiculous (With my Warrior being able to do a 13+ hit combo, chaining to another ability doing 2x hit then another doin 1x big hit and then a 6x hit combo; killing almost any mob).

Regular mobs became more random and started doing way more damage. So dodging and blocking or staying out of range became a priority, too. Those turtles in Cutthroat Bay hit like trucks when they spin for example.

But yeah.

There is a lot of issues on the introduction levels.

I have no idea why they didn't have different starter zones for the different races. *boggles* I mean ... even WOW had different starter zones.

MMO's do tend to pick up after a certain level, true.

And while you're right about not being "allowed" to judge a game after this relative short playtime,

there is a solid base laid down for the theme of the game. A game either compels to you, or it doesn't, simple as that.

Some games make you feel that they'll be able to change your view over time and others make you feel that the feeling will probably stay the same.

Regardless of me being wrong, this game doesn't compel me that much, and no matter how fun or great the game gets on the later stages,

there's no real excuse in having solely kill-there-kill-that quests for the first 11+ levels. It doesn't have to be anything extravagant (yet)

but a change of quest and pace does a lot.

So thanks for the heads-up on how the 'system" works, I'm sure it'll be a help to others pending on the line of "yay or nay",

and I'm sure others might even be happy about this "news".

But I'm gonna pass on this game after all :]

- Lith. ...Choice.

I have no idea why they didn't have different starter zones for the different races. *boggles* I mean ... even WOW had different starter zones.

I think, in a way, it's a good thing.

Think of having 5+ low level zones, where you pretty much zoom out of in a couple of hours.

Now if this was done GW2 style, where quests and areas scale you up and down, then yes, it would have been glorious.

I just think TERA needs to focus on story on the same level as FFXI.

If it does this, it'll be a winner instantly. Because TERA has everything else right.

Massive and 100% open world? Check.

Awesome combat system? Check.

Badass mobs/BAM? Check.

Massive outdoor and instanced dungeons? Check.

Amazing social mechanics for AH/Trading/PVP? Check (Big check on the AH features! Best AH features to date!).

And more.

EME is sure set on impressing.

Feckin' hell.

I have to take my hat off for their efforts.

If they manage to make that "storyline" in the dungeon proper,

it'll be christmas V___V

The last Korean MMO that I remeber races getting their own starting zones was the orignal L2.

Im not sure why, but it seems they have fallen out of favor with Korean developers. BnS only has one starting zone atm it seems.

On topic: I'm interested to see what other goodies this 4GB patch brings.

New Elin voices

I like the lines, but the voices sound kinda old and the delivery... hmm...

"Go drown in a puddle!"

Oh, wow...

@ 3:40 - "Oooh, you're trouble... I like you." Suggestive much?

I'll take these voices, over the old voice actors.

They sound so much better, and more fitting, some of them still suck though.

In unrelated news.

OBT goes up to level 32.

Headstart goes up to level 38.

What a rip off....

If I actually sit down during OBT and play and level, I will easily get my Warrior towards 32 and then 38 will be nothing.

Oh well, guess it'll give me time to do schoolwork, and practice BAM-fighting because Warrior is constantly being changed by the incompetent devs, and with no PVP, all I'll get to do is solo BAMs and get into dungeons as a subpar DPS and a off-tank.

Definitely paying attention to this game now, after seeing it in action at PAX East and reading up on it a bit... and also since it'll get here in less than a month, as opposed to who-knows-when for B&S.

I read back a few pages here, but not through all of them. Can you folks tell me a few things?

In your experience, how is the userbase? (Mature and knowledgeable? Rage-inducing dregs of humanity? Somewhere in between?*)

How fun is the game? (Tight controls, dynamic tactics? Do you go into dungeons or whatever just to get loot, or is it genuinely fun? How are the controller controls?)

How's the balance? Is every class useful?

Thanks!

*When I played WoW, most of the people who were competent were also complete jerks about it, and the people who were nice were often terrible. Very little favorable overlap, it was unfortunate... though it was on the 4th worst server...

The community is like any other MMOG community at the start of a new MMOG. Arrogant/Ignorant/Confused/Ragequitting/Happy/Excited, etc.

The combat is by far, easily one of the best, if not the best found in any MMOG to date. Personally I feel it's even superior to B&S but they're different enough to cater to different people, so that's just opinion there.

P.S Ultima: There is no such thing as main DPS or subpar DPS.

There is only alive DPS and dead DPS IMO.

But yeah show me a MMO community that is good and I'll show you an MMO that is 2 years away from release. ;P

Well, currently, we've been dealing with folks who may not last past the beta. So lots of herp ... lots of derp. But there are some mature people there, too. It may stabilize once the game is fully launched though.

I, personally (read: my opinion) think the game is very fun. I feel like I have more control of my character because I don't have to stand still and take it when an enemy is attacking me. I don't have to "wait my turn". I can dodge, I can run away, I can backpeddle, I can jump behind the enemy. Good times.

As far as attacks being dynamic, I think once you get used to everything and get a handle on how the enemies move, you'll have an idea of which skills to move. I won't say that you can hit buttons without thought or anything, but you will eventually have a rotation. But then again, I haven't played any high level content. My highest level character was level 23. :shakehead:

I haven't done any dungeons ... since I'm not really into doing dungeons. If you visit Steparu.com, Steparu's got lots of videos of dungeons posted if you wish to check them out. http://steparu.com/previews/mmo-rpg-previews/847-tera-queen-of-argon-bosses

I had my doubts about some of the classes, so played some of those during beta (not planning to touch them at launch), but I truly had a lot of fun with every class.

All in all, these are just opinions and you should try the game for yourself. Open Beta starts on April 20th and is open to everyone:

Here's how to get started:

1. Log in to your En Masse account. If you do not have an En Masse account yet, create one!

2. Click the Enter Code button on the right.

3. Enter the Open Beta Test code: TERABETA

4. Click the Submit button.

5. Click the Download Game button under the Account Overview tab.

6. This will start downloading the game launcher.

7. Run the launcher and install the game so you'll be ready to go when the servers open!

warriors arent subpar dps...ive seen plenty of zerks and sorcs and slayers that did less dps than me playing a warrior and tanking at the same time... almost anyone outside my guild. calling a warrior off tank and subpar dps is like calling ur top dps in wow a healer.

Would love to, but I still have my 4-year-old Macbook. I'll replace it soon, but I wanted to know what I could before I did.

(So many things to do, regarding that. Gotta get more RAM, maybe a SSD, a copy of Windows 7 (or XP?), an HDMI adapter for the TV... and even then, I need to see whether Apple's going to release a new model soon, since I'm hearing rumors... STILL less expensive than buying a separate PC, though.)

Edit: true story, I was top dps and heals once, in WoW. As a ret paladin, on Loatheb in Naxx, back when we still had Judgement of Light. For 3 out of every 20 seconds, people received heals from that, and I guess that was enough!

No it wouldn't be ^^

Putting your own gaming PC together will cost you less than the 1,000 USD (Minimum) that Apple asks for their Macbooks.
